You can find us at 31 Ajmer Road, right where the traffic starts to pick up during the day. This place is full of bags and containers filled with different food items. The air usually smells a bit like grain and whatever spices we’ve got in stock at the moment. We don’t have a lot of floor space because we try to keep as much as we can on hand for the people who stop by. The front door stays open most of the time to let in some air, though it also lets in the dust from the road. We spend a lot of the morning weighing things out and tying up bags with twine. It’s a lot of physical work, moving heavy sacks from the back to the front. The counter is an old wooden thing that’s seen better days, but it’s sturdy. We don’t use any complicated machines, just a simple scale and some scoops. People from around here come in to get what they need for their kitchens, and we usually have a quick chat about the news or the price of things. It’s not a supermarket; it’s just a small center where we sell what we have. Sometimes we run out of something and have to wait for the next delivery truck to show up. It’s a steady pace, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the street outside.
