Agarwal Dal & Masala Udyog

Our place is located right near the Kumbha Stadium on Chagpura Road. If you are driving by, you can usually smell the spices being ground before you even see the building. We work with dals and different kinds of masalas. It gets a bit dusty inside with all the grinding machines running. We keep the machines going for most of the day. Sometimes the noise is quite a lot, but you stop noticing it after an hour or two. My family has been doing this for a long time. We aren’t a huge operation, just a local udyog trying to keep things moving. The trucks come and go, loading up bags of lentils and spice packets. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the raw grain coming in. If it’s not dry enough, it’s a problem. We use old-school methods for a lot of the sorting because that is what we know. The office is just a corner with a fan and a ledger. We don't have a website or anything like that usually. People just know where we are. On match days at the stadium, the traffic gets really bad, so we try to finish our deliveries early. It’s a simple life. We deal with farmers and small shopkeepers mostly. There is always a layer of turmeric powder on everything by the time we close up for the evening. It's just messy but good work.
