Shangar Art & Craft

If you are near the Law Garden, you might have walked right past us. Shangar Art & Craft is at 1, Gandhibaug Society, right across from Nirmanbhavan. We are also near the Swati Hotel, which is a good landmark for people who get lost trying to find our door. The area is usually quite lively, especially in the evenings when people are out looking at the local crafts. Our shop is filled with all sorts of things we’ve collected or made. It’s a bit of a jumble sometimes, with boxes tucked under tables and items hanging from the walls. We don’t have a professional decorator; we just put things where they fit. We spend a lot of time cleaning the glass cases because of all the dust from the street. There are a few of us here who handle the sales and talk to the people who wander in. We aren't big on high-pressure selling. If someone wants to look around for an hour and not buy anything, that’s fine with us. We know the other shopkeepers in the society, and we often share a meal or a newspaper during the slow hours. The light in the shop is a bit dim in the corners, but it makes the place feel cozy. It’s a local business and we like being part of this neighborhood where art and everyday life kind of mix together.
