Hindustan Garments

We’ve been here at Shed No. 144 in the Banner Industrial Estate for quite some time now. It’s right across from Soma Textile, just a short walk if you’re coming from the Gulshan Bakery side on Rakhial Road. Most people around here know the spot because of the industrial traffic, but it’s where we do all our work with clothes and garments. It’s a busy area. Sometimes the trucks blocking the road make it hard to get in, but we manage. We aren’t a big fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. It is just a shed where the machines run most of the day. Some days are louder than others depending on what orders we are trying to finish up. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years, though the textile mills nearby stay pretty constant. Usually, you’ll find a couple of us drinking tea outside during the afternoon break when the heat gets to be too much inside the shed. We just focus on getting the sewing done and making sure the boxes are packed up right before the transport arrives in the evening. There is a lot of dust from the road sometimes, but that is just part of being in this part of town. If you miss the turn at the bakery, you end up going too far down towards the main road, so we tell people to look for the industrial gate. It’s just how things are.
