We spend most of our daylight hours at No.174, Shubh Industrial Estate. It’s a busy spot near Zaveri Farm on Singarva Road in Kathwada. Being here at Rajkamal Apparels means dealing with a lot of fabric and threads every single day. The industrial estate gets pretty loud with all the other units around us, but we’ve gotten used to the noise over time. Sometimes the dust from the road outside gets in, but that’s just part of working in Kathwada. We have a small group of people here who know their way around a sewing machine and a cutting table. It isn’t a fancy setup with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just a practical workspace where we get the orders sorted and packed. We usually take our breaks together, and you can hear the traffic moving toward Zaveri Farm if the wind is right. Most of the time, we are just focused on the piles of cloth waiting to be turned into something wearable. There are days when the heat in the shed gets a bit much, especially during the summer months in Gujarat, but we keep the fans going and just get on with it. It’s honest work and we like the routine of it. We’ve been at this location for a while now and the neighbors in the estate are all familiar faces. It feels more like a community than just a bunch of businesses lined up on Singarva Road.
