Working at Nand Kishor Medical And General Store keeps us on our feet quite a bit. We are situated at Shop No.16 on the ground floor of the Free Way Trade Center. It’s right on the Narol-Aslali Highway, so there is always the sound of trucks and cars passing by at all hours. Being opposite the Indian Oil Petrol Pump helps people find us, though the highway noise can be a bit much when we’re trying to talk. Since we have both medical and general items, our shelves are a bit of a mix. You’ll find toothpaste right near the bandages. The ground floor location is good because we don't have to carry heavy crates up any stairs. We spend our mornings sweeping out the dust that blows in from the highway and arranging the new stock that arrived the night before. Free Way Trade Center is a busy place, and being at Shop No.16 means we see a lot of travelers stopping for a quick thing or two. It’s not a quiet job. We’re often checking the inventory lists against what’s actually on the shelves to make sure we didn't run out of something basic. The heat from the road comes in during the summer months, but we just keep the doors open for the breeze. It’s a plain, simple shop where we do our work and go home when the sun sets.
