Our unit is in the Chhipakui area of Danilimda, right near the Madni Masjid. If you know the neighborhood, you know it’s a place where everyone is always busy. The sound of the machinery is pretty much constant from early morning until late at night. We work with textiles, so there is always lint and thread on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. It’s a bit of a dusty environment, but that is just part of the job when you’re dealing with fabric all day. We have a few big looms and tables for cutting and folding. Most of the people working here have been in the textile trade their whole lives. It’s not a glamorous business, but it’s what we know. The masjid nearby is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We don’t have a website or a marketing department; we just do our work and let the fabric speak for itself. In the summer, it gets quite hot inside, so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze we can. It’s a very local operation, and most of us live just a few streets away. We keep things simple, focus on the orders we have, and try to get home before the evening traffic gets too bad. It is a loud and messy way to make a living, but it’s what we have been doing for years and we are used to the noise.
