Kamdhenu Khadi Ghar

Being right across from Sahajanand College means we see a lot of young people walking by every day. Kamdhenu Khadi Ghar is tucked into the complex here in Ambavadi. It’s a nice enough spot, though the parking can be a real headache during the rush hours. We spend a lot of our time folding and stacking the different fabrics we get. Khadi needs a bit of care, you can't just throw it around. The shelves are pretty full and sometimes it’s hard to find exactly what a person is looking for right away. We usually have the radio playing in the background, mostly old songs. It keeps the mood light while we wait for customers. When the college lets out, it gets a bit busier with students looking at stuff, even if they don't always buy anything. We’ve got some regular staff who have been here since the beginning. We know most of the people in the other shops in the complex too. Lunch is usually just tiffin brought from home, eaten quickly in the back room. The lighting in here isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the front door if it’s heavy, so we have to move the stock back. It’s just how it is. We keep the place clean as much as we can. It’s a steady kind of life, working with the cloth and talking to the regulars who appreciate the feel of real cotton.
