It’s actually behind a few things—Prem Palace and the petrol pump too—so it can be a little tricky to find the first time you visit. It’s a quiet enough spot considering how busy the main road gets. We’ve set up our little fashion operation here because the neighborhood feels lived-in and real. It’s not a shiny new commercial complex, just an older apartment building where we’ve made our space work for us. There are boxes of clothes and rolls of material usually taking up most of the room. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because that's not what we're about. We just want to get the garments finished and sent out. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when a new shipment arrives, but we shuffle things around to make it work. Most of us have been working in this industry for years, so we don't need a lot of direction. We just show up, do the cutting and the sewing, and try to keep things moving. Usmanpura is a good place to be based; it has that old Ahmedabad feel that we like. It’s a practical setup for a practical business.
