Janta Engineering Works (Pumpwala)

Everyone around Relief Road knows us as Pumpwala, even though the sign says Janta Engineering Works. We are right at 2270/1, just a short walk from the Alka Petrol Pump. Being near Kadiakui means there is always traffic and people walking by. It's a loud area, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Our shop is full of pumps and different engineering parts. There’s usually someone hunched over a workbench trying to figure out why a motor isn’t turning. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find people in suits. We wear old clothes that we don't mind getting grease on. Sometimes the floor is a bit slippery from the oil, and we have to be careful. We take our tea breaks outside on the step when it's not too crowded on the sidewalk. It’s a simple setup. We have our tools, our spare parts, and a lot of old stories from working in this part of town. People stop by because they saw the name or someone told them about the Pumpwala down the street. We don’t spend much time on paperwork if we can help it. It’s more about the actual work with the machines. The rain sometimes leaks a little near the back door during monsoon, but we just move the stuff out of the way. It’s a regular life here, just fixing things day in and day out.
