Gheekanta is the heart of the cloth market in Ahmedabad, and we are right in the middle of it at Nagarsheth Vando. It’s an old area with narrow lanes and a lot of history. Dp Clothing Co. Pvt. Ltd. has been operating out of here for years. The building is old, and you can see the layers of paint on the walls. It’s always busy here. There are people carrying big bales of fabric on their shoulders and rickshaws trying to squeeze past each other. Our office and storeroom are always filled with the sound of the street. Inside, things are a bit chaotic but we know where everything is. We handle a lot of wholesale stuff, so there are always piles of shirts and trousers waiting to be dispatched. It’s dusty and hot, and the tea man comes by three times a day, which is the highlight for most of us. We don't have a fancy showroom. It’s more of a working space. We deal with traders from all over the state who come here to find what they need. It’s a tough environment, very competitive, but we’ve got our steady clients who know we’ve been here for a while. We just focus on getting the orders out and keeping the quality where it should be. The work is hard and the hours are long, but that is how business is done in the old city. We keep moving forward without too much complaining.
