Bharatlal Devaji Garments

Our shop, G 62, is inside the Padmavati Complex on Gheekanta Road. This whole area is famous for clothes, so the street outside is always blocked with scooters and people shopping. We are tucked away a bit inside the building, so you have to walk past several other shops to find us. We deal in all sorts of garments and have stacks of shirts and pants piled up on the counters. It is not the kind of place with mannequins or fancy lighting. We just have simple racks and a lot of plastic bags for packing. The floor tiles are old and some of them are chipped around the edges. My uncle started this business and I have been here since I was a teenager. We spend the day unfolding clothes for customers and then folding them back up again. It is a lot of repetitive work, but it keeps us moving. We have a small stool behind the counter where we take turns sitting down. The air in the complex can get a bit stuffy because there aren't many windows. We drink tea from the stall downstairs twice a day and chat with the other shopkeepers about how the market is doing. It is a simple life and we know most of the wholesale buyers who come through. We close up when the complex guards start locking the main gates at night.
