I started D J Rutvik here in Naranpura, right across from the post office. We are in S 1, Sakal Apartment. It's a pretty quiet residential area mostly, but my neighbors are used to the noise by now. I've got my gear set up in a small room. It’s mostly speakers, mixers, and a whole lot of cables that I'm always trying to keep organized. Most of my work happens on the weekends. During the week, I'm usually here checking my playlists or making sure the equipment didn't get banged up at the last gig. I've done a lot of parties around Ahmedabad. Weddings are the big ones, but I do birthdays and small get-togethers too. It's just me mostly, though sometimes I bring a cousin to help carry the heavy speakers. Moving those things up and down narrow stairs is the worst part of the job. But once the music starts and people are moving, it’s fine. I try to play what people actually want to hear, not just what I like. It's a living. Sometimes the power goes out or a speaker blows, and you just have to deal with it on the spot. I’ve learned to always carry extra fuses and backup wires. If you're looking for me, just look for the post office in Naranpura and I'm right there in Sakal Apartment. It’s easy to find. I’m usually around in the evenings if I’m not out at a venue somewhere.
