Our business, Charchit Appreal, is located right in the middle of Asarwa in Ahmedabad. Specifically, we are at the Muni Slum Quarters, number 7 153, which is just opposite the Asarwa Railway Station. Being so close to the station means there is a constant sound of trains and people moving about, but it is a great spot for getting things transported. We deal with apparel, so our space is always filled with rolls of fabric, threads of every color, and the sound of sewing machines running. It is a very hands-on environment. It isn't a polished showroom; it is a working factory area where we focus on production. The walls have some stains, and the floor is usually covered in scrap pieces of cloth by the end of the shift. We have a group of workers who have been with us for a long time, and we all work pretty closely together in the heat of Ahmedabad. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we have big industrial fans going all the time. The Muni Slum Quarters area is very crowded, but it has a lot of life to it. People are always working hard around here. We don't spend money on fancy marketing or big offices because we would rather focus on making sure the clothes are made right. It is a tough business with tight deadlines, but we just keep the machines running and get the orders out to the station across the road.
