Our shop is in Jasoria Enclave, just off Fatehabad Road. We’re about a kilometer away from the Taj Mahal, so we see a lot of tourists passing through the area. It’s a busy part of Agra, but our little lane is a bit tucked away from the main chaos of the street. We deal with gems and various Indian art pieces. The space is filled with all sorts of things, from small trinkets to larger decorative items for houses. Sometimes it feels like we have too much stuff and not enough room to put it all. We’ve been working out of this spot for years. The walk from the Taj is easy enough, though the rickshaw drivers outside can be a bit pushy. Inside, it’s a bit cooler and quieter. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just some good fans that keep the air moving. A lot of our time is spent explaining how things are made to people who’ve never seen this kind of work before. It’s not a high-end gallery; it’s more of a local shop where we keep things real. We do our own wrapping and boxing for anyone who buys something to take back with them. It’s important to get the padding right so things don’t break on the way home. We’re just regular people trying to make a living in a very famous city. It gets tiring but we enjoy the conversations we have with different people.
