Our place is at No. 12/3, which is actually really close to the Taj Mahal. You can see the crowds of tourists from the end of the lane, but down here it’s a bit quieter. We spend our days tucked away inside, mostly looking at spreadsheets or packing up orders. The building is older, with these narrow stairs that make moving big boxes a real challenge. We’ve had to get creative with how we stack things. It’s usually just the three or four of us here, depending on the day. We don't really have a reception desk or anything formal. People usually just walk in and find someone sitting at a desk covered in samples. The air is always a bit dusty because of the materials we work with. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just open the windows and wait for it to come back. It gives us a chance to stretch our legs. Dealing with exports means we’re always thinking about ships and containers that are thousands of miles away. It feels strange to be in such a historic part of town while sending things all over the world. We’ve got a routine that works for us, even if it looks a bit chaotic to an outsider. Most of the time is spent making sure the numbers match up and the labels are stuck on straight. It’s simple work, but it keeps us moving and provides for our families.
