Lahoti Cement Works Chennur

Started the business here in Chennur a long time ago. We are right across from the new bus stand, so it gets pretty noisy with the buses coming and going all day. The cement dust is something you just get used to after a while. Most days are spent moving bags around and making sure the inventory is right. It is heavy work. Sometimes the rain slows things down because you can’t have the cement getting wet or it is all ruined. People from the village come by asking for a few bags for a small wall or a whole truck for a house. We just sit in the small office area when it is too hot outside. There is a tea stall nearby that we visit twice a day. It is not a fancy place at all. The floor is usually covered in gray dust and the phone rings more than I would like. My hands are always rough from handling the material. We keep the doors open so we can see who is coming into the yard. It is a simple life here near the bus stand. We know most of the drivers and the regulars who pass by. The building is old but it works for what we do. We do not have a big sign or anything, just the work we do every day. It gets tiring when the summer heat hits hard, but we just keep drinking water and moving the stock as fast as we can before the sun gets too high.
