Sharma Silk Handloom Swawlambi Shakari Samiti Ltd

This is a cooperative society based out of Chankya Place. We operate from 3/7 A in Gali No 2. It’s a bit of a long name, Sharma Silk Handloom Swawlambi Shakari Samiti Ltd, but everyone around here just knows us for the work we do. We focus on handloom items, and there’s usually the sound of work going on when you walk in. The space isn't huge, so we have to be careful about how we store the silk and other fabrics. It’s a collective effort, so we all pitch in with the different tasks. Some days are spent just organizing the yarn and others are for checking the finished pieces. The lane outside is narrow, so it can be a bit of a struggle when we get shipments. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. We just rely on the quality of the weaving and people telling their friends about us. It’s a bit traditional, I suppose, but that’s how we like it. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’d rather spend the money on better materials. We’ve been here in Gali No 2 for years and we’ve become a part of the daily life of this street. It takes a lot of patience to do this kind of handiwork, but it is what we know best and we enjoy the daily process.
