Rama Scrap Store

Our place is over in Uttam Nagar in the Hathsal Colony area, specifically at C 250. Rama Scrap Store is basically a collection point for all the things people in the neighborhood want to get rid of. We take in old newspapers, plastic bottles, and a lot of metal scraps. It’s a bit messy, to be honest. We have piles of stuff stacked up against the walls and sometimes it spills out a little. I spend the mornings sorting through what came in the day before. You’d be surprised at what people throw away. My hands are always dirty from handling old iron pipes or greasy engine parts. The colony is quite crowded, so we have to be careful about how we park the cart so we don't block the narrow lanes. It’s a family-run thing, so my nephew usually helps me out when he’s not at school. We don't have any computers or anything like that; everything is written down in a thick ledger book that sits on a wooden desk. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy bundles and loading them onto the truck when it’s time to sell to the bigger yards. The weather really affects us since a lot of the work happens outside, but we just put on a hat and keep going regardless of the sun. It is a bit of a grind but it is our living.
