Our shop is over on Jail Road in Hari Nagar, specifically at Wz-290. If you know the area, you know it is famous for furniture and it gets really crowded, especially on weekends. We spend most of our time around metal and tools because that is what we do. We make things like steel cupboards, desks, and those sturdy racks you see in offices or homes. The place usually smells like fresh paint and cut metal, and there is always some noise from the welding or the hammers going. It is a small operation, just a few of us working on the floor and taking orders. We do not have a glossy catalog or a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most people just walk in, look at what we have built, and tell us the size they need. Sometimes we are busy loading up a rickshaw with an almirah to send it out to a customer nearby. The heat can get pretty bad in the summer, but we keep the fans going and just get on with the work. We have been in this spot for years and the neighbors all know us. It is basic work, making furniture that lasts and does not break easily. We do not use much wood here, it is almost all steel. It is honest work and keeps us busy from morning until we close up the shutters at night. We just try to make things that people can actually use in their houses for years.
