Darshan Singh

My name is Darshan Singh and I operate from my place at D-82 in Kirti Nagar. Being in Kirti Nagar means I’m right in the middle of the biggest furniture market in Delhi. It’s a very busy area with trucks moving timber and finished goods all day and night. My office is basically a part of my home address. It’s a straightforward setup where I handle all my work affairs. I’ve been doing this for a long time now. It’s not a large company with different departments. When someone calls, they usually speak directly to me. I spend a lot of time visiting sites or looking at materials in the local market. The office is often filled with bits of wood or hardware that I’m checking for a project. It’s a bit dusty, but that’s the nature of the work in this part of town. I don't use any of that fancy business language. I just talk to people and figure out what they need for their space. Most of my work comes from people who have known me for years. It’s a quiet life in a loud neighborhood. My day usually starts with a walk around the block to see what’s new in the market. Then it’s back to the desk to handle the paperwork and phone calls. It’s a very practical way to live and work. Sometimes the sawdust gets everywhere but you get used to the smell.
