You can find us on Sardar Maan Singh Marg in Hari Nagar, specifically Street Number 2. The sign outside says BE-65. It’s a typical mechanical workshop. There’s always some engine part being cleaned or a piece of metal being welded. My hands are usually covered in oil by ten in the morning. We take on various mechanical jobs that come our way. Some are easy, some take a few days of scratching our heads. The street outside is always a bit chaotic with rickshaws and delivery bikes, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. We don’t have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. Usually, if you come by, you’ll find us hunched over a workbench. We’ve been doing this for a long time now. The tools are old but they work fine. We don't talk much while we work, mostly just the sound of the lathe or a hammer. It’s honest work. Sometimes someone brings in a part that’s so rusted we aren't sure it can be saved, but we try anyway. It’s about being practical and solving the problem in front of us. We close up when the sun goes down and do it all again the next day. There’s no magic to it, just keeping the machines running and making sure things are bolted down right. Avtar Mechanical Works has been in this street for years, and we'll probably be here for many more.
