Self Reliant Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited has a small shop in Washim. We are located at Shop No 24 in the C Wing of the Patni Commercial Complex. It is a central place in town, so it is easy for farmers to drop by when they are in the area for other errands. The office is usually a bit messy with seed bags or organic fertilizer samples laying around. We chose the name Self Reliant because that is exactly what we are trying to be as farmers. We don't want to depend on outside people for everything we need to grow our crops. In the shop, we talk about how to improve the soil and what crops might do well next year. It is a very hands-on kind of business. We aren't polished business people in suits. Most of the time we are wearing our work clothes because we just came from the farm. The complex can get quite busy on market days, so there is always someone coming in or going out. We don't have any big mission statements on the walls, just some calendars and notes about the weather. It is just a place where local growers can get together and try to make organic farming work for everyone in our community. We are just trying to keep things simple and productive for the members without any unnecessary corporate layers.
