Uma Maheshwari Oil Mill

Working at an oil mill like ours on Kareemabad Road means you always go home smelling like crushed seeds. Our place is at 16/2/1, and it is a fairly straightforward setup with the machinery taking up most of the room. The sound of the mill is quite loud, a constant thumping and grinding that you can hear even from the street outside. Kareemabad Road is always busy with traffic, so we get a lot of dust blowing in through the open front. We spend a lot of time cleaning the equipment and making sure the oil is flowing into the containers properly. It is greasy work, and no matter how much you wash your hands, they always feel a bit slick. We have been at this location for a long time, and the building shows its age with the cracks in the walls and the worn-down floor. We do not really have a lobby or anything; people just walk right in to where the work is happening. Sometimes the heat from the machines makes it really hot inside, so we take breaks under the tree across the road when we can. It is not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. We just keep the machines running and handle the orders as they come in from the local folks. There is always something to fix or a spill to wipe up, so the day never feels slow.
