Shiva Pickles

Shiva Pickles is based in Vishwanathpuram, which is part of Geesugonda in Warangal. Our house number is 3-129. If you come by, you’ll probably smell what we are doing before you even see the house. We make pickles here. It’s a lot of cutting, mixing, and waiting for things to sit in the sun. We use a lot of jars and big plastic tubs. The kitchen area is always busy with someone peeling something or grinding up spices. It’s a family kind of thing, not a big factory. We follow the recipes we’ve always used. Warangal has good produce, so we try to use what is fresh and around. The sun in Vishwanathpuram is good for drying the ingredients out just right. We don't have a big store, we just work from the place we live. Some days the floor is a bit sticky and the air is sharp with chili, but that’s just the job. We don’t use any big machines, just our hands for most of it. Neighbors sometimes stop by to see what’s cooking or to have a chat. We sell to people around here and some folks further out who know us. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy through all the different seasons. When the mango season hits, it gets really crazy around here with all the fruit. We just do what we can and try to keep the jars filled for whoever needs them.
