Our shop, Azeem Bag Shop, is over at H. No -12-4-7 in the Papaiahpet Chaman area of Mattewada. If you walk down the street, you’ll see bags hanging all over the front. We have everything from small purses to big school bags for the kids. The place is a bit cramped because we keep so much stock inside. People come here when their zippers break or if they need a sturdy bag for traveling. I spend a lot of time sitting on a small stool fixing handles or sewing up torn linings. Mattewada is a crowded spot, so there is always someone walking in asking for a discount. I don't mind, it's just part of the day. We don't have any big signs or fancy lights. It is just a regular shop where you can find a bag that lasts a while. When the schools open after summer, the shop gets so busy I can hardly breathe. Parents bring their children and we try to find the right color or size for them. Sometimes the dust from the road comes in, so I have to keep cleaning the shelves. I have been here for a good while and know most of the people who live around the Chaman. It’s a simple way to make a living, selling bags and making sure they are strong enough to carry heavy things.
