Sudha Rice Stores

You can find Sudha Rice Stores over at 9-9-31/1 on 3rd Street in Vishvanathapuram. We are quite close to the Sai Baba Temple, which means we get a lot of foot traffic from people visiting there. Our shop is basically filled from floor to ceiling with different types of rice. We spend our mornings opening up the heavy shutters and pulling some of the display bags out so people can see what the grain looks like. It’s a lot of lifting, as rice bags are quite heavy. My back usually feels it by the end of the day. We don't use any high-tech systems here. We mostly just know our stock by heart and keep a ledger on the desk. People come in looking for specific grains for their cooking, and we try to show them what we have in the back. The air in the shop always smells a bit like dry grain and burlap sacks. It’s a simple setup with a few fans to keep the air moving. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when a new shipment arrives and we have to stack everything in the aisles. We just work through it and get it organized eventually. We’ve been in this spot for a while and the locals know us. It’s not a complicated business, just buying and selling rice every day until the sun goes down. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next person.
