We are based in Akkayyapalem in Visakhapatnam. The business is pretty straightforward. We do decorations for weddings and local functions. Mostly we work with flowers and fabric backdrops. Our store is basically a big warehouse for all the decorative stuff we’ve bought over the years. You’ll find bundles of artificial marigolds and big wooden frames leaning against the walls. It gets very humid here in Vizag, so we have to make sure the stuff doesn't get ruined by the damp air in the rainy season. We spend a lot of time in our van, driving from one part of Akkayyapalem to another. It’s a lot of climbing up ladders and pinning things to the ceiling. My crew is small, but they know how to work fast when there is a deadline. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just meet clients and show them some photos of what we did before. Usually, we are working while everyone else is sleeping so the venue is ready by morning. It’s not easy work. Your fingers get sore from the wire and the tape. We just try to keep the stuff looking decent for the families. The traffic in the lanes can be a bit tight when we have the truck loaded up with poles. We’ve been doing this for a while now and everyone in the neighborhood knows where we are. Sometimes we sit by the road and have a quick meal before the next job starts.
