Sri Yellamma Rice Depo

This is Sri Yellamma Rice Depo over at 5-241 in Bheemili, which is part of the Anandapuram area. We mostly deal with big bags of rice, as you can probably tell from the name. My father started this a long time ago and now I handle the daily work. The shop is filled with the smell of grain and the sound of heavy bags being moved around. We get different varieties depending on the season. Some people want the expensive long grain and others just need something cheap for daily meals. We have stacks reaching up to the ceiling sometimes. It is heavy work and my back feels it by the end of the day. The floor is usually covered in a bit of white dust from the sacks. We keep a ledger to track who bought what, though most of it is just cash and carry. Bheemili is a nice enough place to work, even if it gets quiet in the afternoons when everyone is taking a nap. We don't do much advertising, word of mouth is usually enough for us. Sometimes birds fly in and we have to shoo them away so they don't get into the bags. It is a simple trade. We buy the rice, we weigh it, and we sell it to the families around here who need to eat. That’s about all there is to it.
