Vanaphala Farmer Producer Company Limited is located in the New Teachers Colony on Kamayyapeta Road. This is up in the Hukumpeta Mandal of Visakhapatnam district. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here into the hilly areas, but the air is a little better than in the city. Our office is a plain building in the colony. We chose this spot because it’s easy for the farmers coming from the surrounding hills to find us. We don't have much in the way of decoration, just some calendars on the wall and a few plastic chairs for visitors. The work we do involves a lot of listening. Farmers come in with their concerns about the forest produce and their crops. We try to help them organize better. It’s often quiet in the New Teachers Colony, which is nice for getting work done. Sometimes the rain here is very heavy, and we have to put buckets under a small leak in the roof. We just deal with it. Visakhapatnam is quite a distance away if you’re driving, so we mostly stick to Hukumpeta for our daily needs. It’s a community effort here. We don't use big words or have fancy brochures.
