Our spot is right near Mata Mariyam on Bareth Road. It’s a busy corner of Ganj Basoda, especially when the trucks come in late in the morning. We spend most of our time here at Samaiya Stone Suppliers just moving things around. The stone business isn’t exactly clean work. There is always a layer of fine dust on everything, from the desk to the trucks. Sometimes we sit outside under the small overhang when the sun gets too sharp in the afternoon. People stop by and ask about prices, or they just look at what we’ve got in the yard. We don't have a big fancy office, just a room with a fan that makes a bit of clicking noise. Most of the slabs are piled up in rows according to size. Some are heavy enough that you need the whole crew to shift them an inch. It’s hard on the back, but that’s the job. The Bareth Road traffic can be loud, but you get used to it after a few years. We keep a ledger for everything, even if my handwriting isn't the best. It’s mostly just us and the stones every day. We see the same faces passing by towards Kala Bagh. Sometimes we share a tea with the guys from the next shop over. It’s not a complicated setup, just a regular place where we get the work done and go home when the sun starts setting behind the buildings.
