Wachika General Store

Ardali Bazar is a busy part of Varanasi, and that is where Wachika General Store is located. We have a lot of items crammed into this small space. You can find everything from cleaning brushes to big containers of ghee. The shop doesn't have a big sign or anything, just the name and the items displayed out front. We spend our mornings taking the delivery of milk and bread. The bazar has a certain smell of spices and old wood, and our shop is right in the middle of it. We use a manual scale for some things and a digital one for others. It depends on what the customer wants. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when the Varanasi sun is beating down on Aradali Bazar. We have a few shelves that are a bit wobbly, so we don't put the heavy stuff on top. Most of the people who come here live in the nearby lanes. They come for their daily groceries and sometimes just to complain about the local traffic. We don't have a lot of help, so it is usually just me or my cousin standing here. We keep a lot of small change in the drawer because everyone seems to bring big notes for small purchases. It is a lot of standing and talking, but it keeps us busy. We don't have fancy ways of doing things, just the old-fashioned way of selling things over the counter.
