Shri Sunder Bhandar

Shri Sunder Bhandar is tucked away in Resham Katra Chowk, right in the heart of the Varanasi H O area. If you know the chowk, you know how crowded it gets, but we’ve been here a long time. It’s a traditional kind of place. We mostly deal with snacks and sweets, the kind of things people pick up while they’re out doing their daily shopping. The shop isn't very big, and it gets pretty cramped when we have a lot of customers, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. I took over the place after watching how things were done for years. We make everything fresh every day. You won't find anything sitting around for too long here. The recipes haven't changed much since I can remember. We don't use fancy packaging or spend money on ads. The smell of the food usually brings people in. Sometimes we run out of certain items by the afternoon, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s an honest way to make a living. We know most of the faces that come through the door. Being in Resham Katra Chowk means we are part of the daily rhythm of the city. We just keep the stove going and the counter clean. It's a simple operation, run by people who actually care about what they're putting in the bag for the neighbors and friends who stop by.
