Uma General Store

Uma General Store is just a small shop on Sonia Road in Varanasi. I have been sitting here for years, watching the rickshaws go by and the people walking to work. It is a noisy street, especially in the afternoons, but you get used to it after a while. I keep things that people in the neighborhood need every day, like soap, biscuits, and matches. It is not fancy at all. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but the shelves are full and that is what matters to the customers. Most people who come here live just a few houses away. We talk about the weather or how expensive things are getting these days. I do not have a big team or anything, it is just me and sometimes my nephew helps out when he is not busy. It is a simple way to make a living in a city like Varanasi. I do not really have a fancy philosophy about it, I just like being part of the local street life. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there with a torch until it comes back. That is just how things go around here.
