Sonu General Stores

Down in Bisheshwarganj, things stay pretty hectic from sunrise to sunset. Sonu General Stores is right on the Main Road, so we get a lot of the noise from the Varanasi streets. We mostly sell everyday household stuff like cleaning supplies, biscuits, and bottled water. The shelves are made of simple plywood and they are starting to sag a little under the weight of the cooking oil cans. We have a small fridge for cold drinks, but it hums quite loudly all day long. Most of the people who stop by are in a hurry, so we have to be quick with the bagging and the change. Sometimes we make a mistake with the math and have to start over on the notepad. It’s not a big fancy place with air conditioning or sliding doors. We just have the one entrance that stays open to the street. The floor gets dirty pretty fast with all the mud and dust from 221001, so we sweep it whenever there is a quiet moment. We’ve been here for a while, so we know which brands people in the neighborhood prefer. It feels good when the sun starts to go down and the air cools off a bit. We spend the last hour of the day counting the cash and making a list for the tomorrow's market run. It is just a regular shop doing its thing day after day without much fuss.
