Banaras Silk Manufacturing Company

Over at No. 6 Gandhi Nagar in Sigra, you will find the Banaras Silk Manufacturing Company. It is tucked away in a spot that stays relatively quiet compared to the main roads. We have been operating out of this building for quite some time. The main floor is where most of the activity happens. You can hear the sound of people working and the rustle of silk fabrics being moved around. We have large tables where we lay things out to inspect them. The lighting is okay, but we often use hand lamps to see the details of the threads better. There is no big sign outside, just the address and our name. People who know the area find us easily enough. The air inside smells a bit like raw silk and maybe some old wood from the storage bins. We keep our records in big ledgers and on a couple of old computers that have seen better days. When it rains, you can hear it hitting the roof really clearly. We usually share a meal together in the small kitchen area during the lunch hour. It’s a very grounded way to work. We don't have a marketing team or anyone like that; we just focus on the silk and the orders we have to fill. Every day is pretty much the same, and that is how we like it here.
