The Banaras Silk Emporium

We are located at D-2 on the second floor of the Gurukripa Commercial Complex, right opposite Taksal Cinema in Nadesar. It’s a lively part of Varanasi. Being The Banaras Silk Emporium, our space is always full of fabric. We have rolls and stacks of silk in just about every corner you look. The light in the complex isn't always the best, so we’ve had to put up extra lamps so we can see the intricate patterns clearly. It’s a family-style environment here. We sit around the tables, going through the pieces and checking for any flaws in the weave. It’s not a fast-paced corporate office; things take time when you’re dealing with traditional silk work. We spend a lot of time talking to weavers and making sure the colors are what they should be for the season. The traffic outside near the cinema can be loud, but inside we just focus on the cloth. We don't have a fancy marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a few of us who know the trade. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty with all the textiles, and the shelves are always overflowing. We just try to keep things organized enough so we can find what a customer is looking for when they ask. It’s a traditional way of doing things, and we’re quite comfortable with that approach. We just keep working away at it day by day.
