Sai General Provisional Store

Our shop, Sai General Provisional Store, sits right at B27/70 at the Gurudham Chauraha. Being near such a busy crossroads in Varanasi means there is never a quiet moment. You can hear the constant honking and the chatter of people passing by all day long. We’ve set up the store to hold as much as possible, so there are boxes stacked in the corners and items hanging from the ceiling hooks. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get around, but we know where every single item is hidden. Whether it's laundry detergent, cooking oil, or just some local snacks, we try to have it ready. The humidity in Varanasi can be tough, especially in the monsoon, but we keep the doors open anyway. People stop their bikes right at the Chauraha and shout out what they need without even getting off sometimes. It's a busy way to live, but it's what we know. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just an honest little shop serving the Gurudham area. We spend our time weighing out goods and chatting with the neighbors about the weather or the local news. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but seeing the same faces every day makes it worth it. If you’re passing through the Chauraha, you’ll see us there among the other shops, just doing our daily business as usual for the people nearby.
