Pulse Departmental Store

You can find Pulse Departmental Store over on M.A. Road, right across from the Jila Jail in Chaukaghat. It’s a bit of a landmark, being next to Rasoi Dhaba where the smell of food is always drifting over. Varanasi is a busy city, and this part of Chaukaghat is no different. We keep a lot of different things here, from household stuff to snacks and toiletries. It’s a bit more than a tiny corner shop, but we still run it like a local place. My brother and I usually handle the counter. It gets busy when the lunch crowd finishes up at the dhaba and they realize they need something for the house. We have a lot of shelves to keep organized, and sometimes things get put in the wrong place, but we find them eventually if we look hard enough. The building is an older one, so it has its quirks like the squeaky door that we keep meaning to fix but never do. People around here are good folks, mostly just stopping by on their way home from work. We aren't doing anything fancy, no big signs or loud music. Just a reliable place to get your shopping done without having to go all the way into the main market. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps when things get quiet in the afternoon heat. It’s a decent life here in Varanasi, just keeping the store running and seeing the same faces every day.
