Maurya General Stores

Down here in Sarnath, specifically over at Old Pokhra in Benipur, you will find Maurya General Stores. It is just a small, regular place where folks from around Varanasi come to pick up their daily needs. The shop is nothing fancy to look at, just a simple spot where we keep things like soap, pulses, and whatever else you might have forgotten on your big grocery trip. Most days start pretty early for us because the neighbors like to get their milk and bread before the sun gets too high in the sky. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. Sometimes the shop gets a bit crowded in the evenings when everyone is heading home from work, but we try to keep things moving along. It isn't always perfectly organized on the shelves, and the ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking noise when it is on high speed, but we know exactly where everything is kept. If you are passing through the Sarnath area and need something quick, you can find us easily enough. We don't have a big team or anything, just a few of us making sure the stock doesn't run out too fast. Living and working in a place like Varanasi means things move at their own pace. We just focus on keeping the doors open and having what people ask for without any fuss or big talk.
