Manish General Store

This shop, Manish General Store, sits on Police Line Road in the Pakky Bazar area of Varanasi. It’s a very old part of town, quite close to the Kachahri, so there are always lawyers, clerks, and people with paperwork walking past. The building itself has that old Varanasi character, with thick walls and a narrow entrance that stays a bit cool. Inside, we’ve crammed in all the essentials people might need during their workday or on their way home. We have rows of biscuits, different types of tobacco, soaps, and plastic buckets hanging from the ceiling. The Pakky Bazar area is always crowded, and the noise of the traffic on Police Line Road is something you just get used to after a few days. It’s a bit messy sometimes, with cardboard boxes stacked in the corner waiting to be opened and sorted. We don't have any fancy signs or neon lights. It’s just a place where you can get a cold bottle of water or a bag of sugar. The air is often heavy with the smell of nearby street food and the exhaust from the rickshaws. We’ve been serving this little corner of the Kachahri area for a long time. People know they can find us at 7/12 when they need something quick for their house or office. It’s a busy life, but it’s honest work, and we like being part of the daily rhythm of this city.
