K. L. General Store

K. L. General Store is located in the Pahadia Market area. We are on the Ghazipur Road, near Chaukaghat in Varanasi. It’s a very active part of the city. There’s always someone moving something or a rickshaw honking nearby. Our shop is tucked into the market, and we sell the usual mix of groceries and household goods. We have big jars of sweets on the counter that the kids like. Most of our work is just keeping the shelves stocked and talking to the people who stop by. We get a lot of laborers and office workers coming in for a quick snack or a pack of cigarettes. We also have the heavy stuff like sacks of rice and flour for the families living around here. It’s a small space, so we have to be clever about where we put things. Sometimes it feels like there isn't enough room, but we manage. I’ve been running this place for a long time. My hands are usually a bit dusty from handling the grain sacks. We don't use any fancy marketing. People know where we are. If you’re in Pahadia, you can’t miss the market. We open early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. Varanasi is an old city, and we are just a small part of its daily life. We keep things simple and try to be helpful to everyone who walks through the door. The shop stays busy until the evening lights come on.
