Jagdish Stores

Jagdish Stores has been operating out of Machodari for a good while now. We are located on Jalpa Devi Road, right in the heart of the Visheshwarganj market area near Kabir Chaura. If you live in this part of Varanasi, you’ve probably walked past us many times. We are a general kirana shop, which means we carry all the staples like dals, spices, tea leaves, and cleaning supplies. The interior of the shop is old-fashioned with wooden shelves that have been there for years. It gets a bit dusty because of the traffic on the road, but we try to wipe things down when we have a spare moment. We get a mix of customers—some are mothers looking for specific ingredients for dinner, and others are workers stopping in for a pack of cigarettes or a cold drink. We don't do any fancy marketing; people just know we are here. The space is often crowded with boxes that just arrived, so you have to watch your step. We take our deliveries through the front door, which can be a bit chaotic when the street is full of people. My family runs the place, so there is usually one of us behind the counter from morning until late at night. We don't have a fixed closing time, really; we just shut down when the street gets quiet. It is a simple, honest way to make a living in a very busy city.
