Deepak Stores

Deepak Stores is just a small corner shop on Sonarpura Road here in Varanasi. We have been selling groceries and household items for quite a few years now. It is a family business, started by my father when he was young. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in the city, just a reliable place for the people nearby. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things like salt, sugar, oil, and biscuits. Sometimes it’s hard to find things because we have so much stuff squeezed into a small space. I usually have to use a stool to reach the top shelves. We don't have any fancy cooling systems, just an old fridge for the cold drinks that rattles a bit. The street outside is always busy with rickshaws and people walking to the river. We get a lot of dust, so we have to dust the counters every couple of hours. It’s a lot of work and my back hurts at the end of the day, but seeing the same faces every day is nice. We don't do home delivery or anything like that. People just drop by, pick what they need, and we have a quick chat while they pay. It’s an honest way to spend the day. Nothing fancy, just a regular shop for regular people who live around Sonarpura.
