About Handloom Fabrics – Fashion & Trends in Varanasi
Our shop is tucked away at A 32/48 Chittanpura, right near the Pili Kothi landmark. It’s a place where you’ll find piles of fabric everywhere you look. We deal with handloom stuff, so there’s a lot of texture and thread around the room. It’s not a shiny showroom. It’s more like a working space where we store and show what we have. Most of the day is spent unrolling big bolts of cloth for people to see. My back gets a bit sore from all the reaching and lifting, but that’s just how it is. The air usually has that faint smell of cotton and dye. We get local tailors and regular folks coming in looking for something specific. Sometimes they find it right away, and other times we have to dig through the shelves for a while. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. It’s a bit noisy outside with the traffic, but inside we just focus on the colors and patterns. We try to keep things tidy, but when you have this much fabric, it’s a constant battle. The lighting isn’t always the best, so we often take pieces to the door to see the true color in the sunlight. It’s a simple business. We've been in this neighborhood for years and everyone knows the Pili Kothi area is the place to find us. We just keep unfolding and folding cloth all day long for everyone.
