Shree Mahaveer Silk Stores

Shree Mahaveer Silk Stores is right in the heart of the old city at D 10/2 Vishwanath Gali. If you’ve ever been to Bansphatak or the Vishwanath Mandir, you know how crowded it gets. The lanes are very narrow there. We have been in this spot for a very long time, passing the work down through the family. The shop is small and full of shelves from floor to ceiling. It smells like old wood and fabric. Because we are so close to the temple, there are always people walking past, even early in the morning. We don't have big glass windows or fancy mannequins. Most of our stock is kept in bundles that we pull out when someone asks. It’s a bit of a maze inside, but we know exactly where everything is hidden. Sometimes the power goes out and we just light a few lamps and keep going. The stone floor stays cool even when it’s boiling outside. We spend a lot of time talking to the regular customers who have been coming to us for decades. They know we don't do anything flashy. It’s just about the cloth and the history of this street. You have to watch your step on the uneven stones outside. It's a busy, noisy, wonderful mess of a place to spend a day.
