Annapurna General Store

Annapurna General Store is located right on the main road in Nadesar, Varanasi. Being on the main road means there is never a quiet moment. We see all kinds of people passing by, not just the locals from Raja Bazar. We try to stock things that travelers might need too, like cold drinks and small snacks, along with the usual household groceries. The shop is a bit old, and the paint is peeling in some corners, but it serves its purpose. We spend most of our time stocking the shelves and talking to the distributors who stop their trucks outside. Varanasi can be very hot, so we keep the fridge running all day for the drinks. We don't have a very large space, so we have to be smart about where we put the rice bags and the flour sacks. Sometimes the traffic outside makes it hard to hear what the customers are saying, but we manage. It’s a simple business. We don't follow any corporate rules or have a big management plan. We just open the shutters in the morning and close them late at night. Most of our work is manual, carrying crates and counting items by hand. People appreciate that we are always here when they need something at the last minute. That is just how life is at our store on the Nadesar main road.
