Vandana Readymade

If you walk down Narayana Pillai Street in Vadodara, you’ll eventually run into our little shop, Vandana Readymade. It’s been here for quite some time now. The street is usually full of people and scooters, so it can be a bit of a scramble to get to the door. Inside, we have racks of clothes that we’ve put together. It isn’t a massive department store; it’s just a local spot where we keep things simple. We spend our days folding clothes, talking to folks who wander in, and keeping the place tidy, though the dust from the street makes that a losing battle sometimes. We don't use any big machines here, mostly just selling what’s already made. My brother and I take turns running the counter. We know most of the people who live on this street by their first names. It’s a friendly enough place. Sometimes we just sit on the stools out front when it’s quiet and watch the world go by. We aren't looking to expand into some big chain or anything. We like being on Narayana Pillai Street. It’s where we belong. We keep the lights on late if someone needs something last minute. It’s not complicated. We just sell clothes and try to be helpful to whoever walks through the door. Vadodara is home, and this shop is our life. We don't have much to complain about, as long as the rain stays out and the customers keep coming in.
