Our center, the Shiv Critical Care Centre, is tucked away behind the Sarjan Complex on Pratap Road. It’s part of the Baroda Health Care group. Being in critical care means things can get very intense very quickly for us. We have to be ready at all hours of the day and night. The building isn't much to look at from the outside. It’s a practical space designed for emergencies. We have monitors and equipment in almost every corner. The staff stays focused on the patients. We don't have much time for small talk during a busy shift. When things are quiet, we sit in the small break room and have some tea. Pratap Road is usually quite congested, so getting here can take a few extra minutes. We are located at the back, which actually helps keep the street noise down a bit for the patients. It’s a serious place, but we try to be kind to the families who are waiting for news. We don't have a PR department writing stories for us. This is just how the unit runs every day. We have nurses and doctors who are used to working under pressure. The floors are tiled and easy to keep clean. We go through a lot of medical supplies every single week. It’s a busy unit but we manage the flow as best as we can. We are just a group of people doing a job.
