Setyam Hospital

Being located right on National Highway No. 8 in Chhani makes things interesting. We hear the trucks and buses roaring past all day and night. It’s a big, grey building that stands out as you drive along the highway. A lot of our work involves people who live right here in Chhani, but we also get folks who are just passing through and need a doctor quickly. The floors are tiled, and the walls have that standard hospital smell of disinfectant and medicine. We have different sections for different needs, from general checkups to more specific health concerns. It isn’t a quiet place by any means. There’s always someone coming in the front door or a nurse calling out for a file. We spend a lot of time looking at test results and talking to families in the waiting area. The lighting is a bit bright, the kind you find in most medical places. We don’t spend much on decorations or fancy furniture; we just have what’s necessary to take care of the people who come in. Sometimes the power flickers when the weather gets bad, but we just keep going. It’s hard work, and the days can be long, especially when the waiting room is packed. We just try to handle each person as they come through. It’s a busy life here on the edge of the highway, but it’s what we do.
